What Is TReDS and Why Does It Exist?

TReDS — Trade Receivables Discounting System — is a framework introduced by the Reserve Bank of India to address the persistent issue of delayed payments to MSME suppliers by large corporates and institutional buyers.

Delayed payments create supply chain challenges: MSMEs struggle to fund day-to-day operations, and buyers end up with poorer procurement terms. Through TReDS, MSMEs convert receivables into immediate cash, cutting reliance on costly short-term credit and freeing up funds for operations — improving liquidity across the ecosystem.

Invoicemart operates as an RBI approved TReDS platform in India. Every transaction runs through a defined settlement process, KYC compliance and a proprietary risk rule engine — protecting the MSME seller, the buyer and the financier alike.

In practical terms: once an invoice is raised and accepted by the buyer, multiple regulated financiers bid to fund it. The MSME receives payment within 24 hours of best bid acceptance. The corporate settles with the financier on the original due date. No debt is created.

How It Works for Each Stakeholder

For MSME Sellers

  1. Upload your invoice on the platform after delivery
  2. Take buyer acceptance on the invoice
  3. Multiple financiers bid, creating competitive price discovery
  4. Accept the best bid and receive payment within 24 hours
  5. The corporate buyer settles with the financier on the due date
Receivables financing without debt. No collateral required. Nothing added to your balance sheet. Your access to funds is driven by your buyer's credit rating, not your own.

For Buyers

  1. One platform consolidates all vendor payments
  2. ERP integration cuts invoice processing time significantly
  3. Flexible repayment terms agreed directly with financiers
  4. Faster-paid suppliers build stronger, more reliable supply chains

For Financiers

  1. All disbursements qualify for Priority Sector Lending classification
  2. Low default risk — credit assessment is based on rated corporate buyers

How Invoicemart Differs From Traditional Factoring

Invoicemart is different from a traditional factoring company. In conventional factoring, an MSME sells its receivable to a single financier, often with restrictive terms and limited ability to negotiate rates. As an online invoice discounting platform in India, we showcase your invoice to multiple regulated financiers simultaneously for bidding. This gives you the option to discover the best rate with no dependency on a single lender.

Traditional factoring: one financier, fixed terms, risk tied to seller
Traditional Factoring
  • One financier, fixed terms
  • Limited rate negotiation
  • Risk tied to seller's profile
VS
Invoicemart TReDS: multiple financiers bidding in parallel, risk tied to buyer's credit rating
Invoicemart / TReDS
  • Multiple financiers bid, in parallel
  • Competitive, market-driven rates
  • Risk tied to buyer's credit rating

The Trade Receivables Discounting System model shifts risk assessment to the corporate or institutional buyer, not the MSME seller. If your buyer is a large, rated corporate, your funding access is strong — regardless of your own credit history or collateral position.
